GRATA International Organized the First Law Student Competition in St Petersburg

Leading law firms together with legal departments of large St. Petersburg companies organized the first case competition for law students. As it was held online, the competition attracted the participants not only from St Petersburg, but from the whole Russia.

The winners received special prizes and were offered internships in the city’s best law firms.

The tournament was organized by the Faculty of Law at St. Petersburg State University of Economics and the Educational Center for Practical Law at the Faculty of the same university. GRATA International St. Petersburg acted as the main organizer with co-organizers including Burlingtons, Dentons,  Varshavsky & Partners, Grigoriev & Partners, Gutsu Zhukovsky & Partners, SSP-Consult, as well as a large construction company Glavstroy SPb.

The winners of the competition was Plan B team, consisting of Kirill Sapelkin, Maria Sizova, Alexandra Ratushnaya, Alexander Naymushin and Konstantin Vorobyov.

The runner-ups were Maxim Soloviev, Matvey Stepanov, Daniil Chmutov, Vladimir Poshivalov, Sofya Dorofeeva, Polina Menshikova, Sofya Karlik, Polina Tseitlin and Tatiana Varfolomeeva.

The competition assessed students' problem-solving and communication skills, as well as the ability to make quick decisions in uncertain situations. The students were offered real law cases from various industries and had to find the best solution applying their knowledge and skills.

“Student case competition are an excellent tool for future lawyers to practice their skills with real-life cases and get an internship offer. And for law firms, it’s a great chance to identify legal talents and develop them further in our firms. We are very happy with the results of the competition and intend to make it an annual tradition,” said Vladimir Komarov, Managing Partner of GRATA International St. Petersburg, the general partner of the competition.
