Igor Lukin is a Partner, Head of Corporate, Competition practices and Co-head of Labour practice of GRATA.

Igor has more than 9 years’ experience in advising on arranging and closing M&A transactions, creating business ventures, corporate governance, competition issues and labour disputes. Prior to joining GRATA Igor worked for such major law firms as Dentons and Sayat Zholshy and Partners.

Igor is a last year PhD candidate conducting his research in the field of corporate law. In 2015, he worked for Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law in Hamburg, Germany as a visiting researcher.

  • Representation of Borealis AG in corporate and labour matters of a world-scale polyethylene project in Kazakhstan (amount of investment US$6.5bn)
  • Advising Total SA on the local regulatory aspects of its US$7.45bn acquisition of Maersk Oil, including the merger clearance in Kazakhstan
  • Advising CITIC Bank in acquisition of controlling interest in Altyn Bank, including obtaining the consent of the National Bank of Kazakhstan for the status of a bank holding
  • Representation of Korean National Oil Corporation in sale of its subsidiary in Kazakhstan
  • Representation of JSC Wealth Fund «Samruk-Kazyna» in sale of BTA Bank, Temirbank, and Alliance Bank
  • Legal support of a foreign investor in acquisition of the longest fiber-optic communication line in Kazakhstan
  • Legal support of a local investor in acquisition of the largest airport in Kazakhstan
  • Permanent legal advisor to one of the major automobile manufacturers on the matters of antitrust regulation in Kazakhstan
  • Permanent legal advisor to one of the major payment systems on the matters of antitrust regulation in Kazakhstan
  • Obtained the Kazakhstani Antitrust Authority’s merger clearance for the Sberbank group in acquisition of Intercomp JSC (the deal was valued at 1.3 billion US dollars)
  • Obtained the Kazakhstani Antitrust Authority’s merger clearance for one of the major Russian railway companies in acquisition of the controlling stake in the major Russian container operator (the deal was values at 60.3 billion Russian rubles)
  • Representation of a major steel producing company in Kazakhstan in the Eurasian Economic Commission’s investigation in the case of prohibited subsidies (a potential fine was 800 million US dollars)
  • Representation of one of the major electronics manufacturers in the Antitrust Authority’s investigation in the matters of unfair competition
  • Analyzed a distribution contract of one of the major energy drink companies in the world for compliance with the Kazakhstan competition law
  • Analyzed a distribution contract of one of the major Fast-Moving Consumer Goods companies in the world for compliance with the Kazakhstan competition law
  • Consultant for EBRD’s project of Review and Reform of Corporate Governance Framework in Kazakhstan
  • Consultant for IFC’s Corporate Governance Program in East Europe and Central Asia
