Introduction of Criminal Liability for Violations of Procurement Legislation
On April 23, 2018, the President of the Russian Federation signed the Federal Law “On Amendments to the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation and Article 151 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Russian Federation,” establishing criminal liability for violation of legislation in the field of procurement.
Previously, violators in the field of public procurement were brought to administrative responsibility, where the amount of the administrative fine for officials was no more than 50,000 rubles, and for legal entities it was limited to 500,000 rubles.
With the introduction of amendments, the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation was supplemented with norms that directly provide for criminal liability up to actual imprisonment for up to 5 years.
