Law “On the Use of Atomic Energyfor Peaceful Purposes” is signed

The President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a law “On the Use of Atomic Energy for Peaceful Purposes”. The law was passed by the Legislative Chamber on 2 July and approved by the Senate on 23 August. 

The law establishes the basic concepts, defines the principles of the use of atomic energy, such as legality, safety, the priority of protecting the life and health of citizens, the environment, the independence of the state regulatory bodies for the safety of atomic energy useand others.

 

Three safety zones will be created around the NPP, including a sanitary protection zone with a special regime of use, in which it is forbidden to place residential premises and public buildings, children's institutions.

 

An observation zone will also be created in the territory of which the radiation exposure of the nuclear installation is likely to affect the population living in this area. And the third is a security zone with a special legal regime.
