Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan Intend to Establish Joint Border Trade Centre

The National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, proposed to establish a border trade centre at a meeting with President Kasym-Jomart Tokayev in Astana on Friday, the official Turkmen media reports.

According to the message, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov initiated the study of the possibility of establishing a centre on the border of the Balkan province of Turkmenistan and the Mangistau region of Kazakhstan.

Furthermore, there was a proposal to explore the opening of trade houses representing Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan in the respective capitals of both countries. The discussions also focused on enhancing the working group's efforts to boost trade volume and diversify the range of goods traded between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Kazakhstan. Additionally, plans were made to convene the inaugural meeting of the Turkmen-Kazakh Business Council.

During the meeting, both sides acknowledged that the trade and economic sector is a crucial aspect of the Turkmen-Kazakh partnership, which they aim to expand to reach $1 billion.

The National Leader of the Turkmen People arrived in Astana on Friday to attend the 10th meeting of the leaders of the Organisation of Turkic States (OTS). At the event, the Chairman of Halk Maslahaty expressed the hope that Turkmenistan, in collaboration with Türkiye and Azerbaijan, will soon find solutions for the transportation of Turkmen natural gas through the Caspian Sea.
