The Uzbekistan– Turkmenistan–Iran–Turkey route will connect the Asia-Pacific region with the EU

ECO member States have agreed on the formation of an international multimodal transport corridor between Asia and Europe.

As already reported, within the framework of the 12th meeting of the Ministers of Transport of the Economic Cooperation Organization, the Protocol of the multilateral meeting of the relevant ministries in the field of transport of Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran and Turkey on the formation of an international multimodal corridor between Asia and Europe via the Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan–Iran–Turkey route was signed.

In accordance with the signed protocol, it is planned to organize cargo transportation from the countries of the Asia-Pacific region to the countries of the European Union through the territories of Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran, Turkey.

This also implies the application of competitive tariff rates and the creation of favorable conditions for the transportation of goods by railways of Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran and Turkey, joint development of measures to unify regulatory and technical standards in the organization of cargo transportation and increase the transport interconnectedness of the countries participating in the route.

The formation and launch of this corridor will contribute to the deepening of Turkmenistan's integration into global transport and logistics networks and increase the transit potential of the country.

The next, 13th meeting of ECO Transport Ministers will be held in Tehran in 2024.
