Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On rational use of energy” was adopted in a new edition

Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan adopted the Law “On rational use of energy” in a new edition.

The Law determines the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Uzbekistan (the “Ministry”) as specially authorized body in the field of rational use of energy. In addition, new authorities and requirements are introduced to the activities of the Ministry. Accordingly, the Ministry shall develop the mechanisms of stimulating implementation of energy-effective and energy-saving technologies, conducts research and development on the enhancement of energy efficiency and energy conservation in the fields of economy and objects of social sector and determines the requirements for the establishment of categories of energy efficiency and energy conservation of goods (works, services), buildings and facilities, equipment, as well as apartment buildings.

The Law in the new edition envisages the regulation of the state control on compliance with the requirements of energy efficiency. It is directed to limit the production and import of products with low energy efficiency and to save energy resources of governmental bodies and entities. In addition, mandatory certification of goods (works, services) for conformity with rates of energy efficiency was introduced.

It is important to note that during the preparation of draft Law, experience of several other countries have been thoroughly studied and analyzed. The new edition of the Law will come into force after its approval by the Olij Majlis and execution by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
