Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan (Parliament) has adopted a resolution addressed to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan (President) requesting the parliament’s dissolution and holding early parliamentary elections. During the plenary meeting of the Parliament held on December 2, 2019, the draft resolution was put into voting and it successfully adopted by majority of votes. Parliament members justified their resolution with the recent reforms, which are being carried out in Azerbaijan and emphasized that these reforms should also cover the legislative branch. Plenum of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Azerbaijan has also ruled in favor dissolution of the Parliament. Based on the Resolution of Parliament and the Decision of the Constitutional Court, President Ilham Aliyev has signed an Order on dissolving the fifth convocation of Parliament and setting early elections date. So, extraordinary Parliament elections in Azerbaijan will be held on 9 February 2020.
