Osman Aydın, Attorney-at-Law and Partner at GRATA International, took part in a TRT Radio program dedicated to juvenile justice and the protection of children’s rights.
During the program, Osman Aydın discussed the concept of a “child pushed into crime” providing a legal perspective on how this term reflects a more accurate and humane understanding of children involved in criminal proceedings. He explained the legal definition of a child and outlined the fundamental principles of the juvenile justice system.
A key focus of the discussion was the importance of terminology. Osman Aydın emphasized that the term “child pushed into crime” is preferred over “criminal child,” as it recognizes that children are often drawn into such situations due to the social and environmental conditions in which they live, rather than acting as fully responsible offenders.
The program also highlighted the distinct approach of the juvenile justice system compared to adult criminal law. Measures applied to children are primarily protective and educational, with a strong emphasis on rehabilitation and reintegration into society.
Throughout the discussion, Osman Aydın stressed the importance of prioritizing the best interests of the child and expressed the view that every child deserves a second chance.
Participation in such programs reflects GRATA International’s ongoing commitment to contributing to public dialogue on key legal and social issues, as well as promoting a balanced and rights-based approach within the justice system.
