New changes have been made to the Criminal Code of Turkmenistan

According to the law “On Amendments and Additions to Certain Legislative Acts of Turkmenistan” signed by the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, some changes were made to the country’s Criminal Code. The text of the amendments was published in the Turkmen state press.

Thus, the note to Article 70 on exemption from criminal liability with sincere recognition was excluded. Previously, the note obligated the judge, prosecutor and investigator to take appropriate measures to bring administrative or disciplinary liability to persons released from criminal liability.

This means that now citizens who were released from criminal liability due to a sincere confession, “in connection with reconciliation with the victim,” and “due to a change in the situation” will be completely exempt from sanctions arising from the Code of Turkmenistan on Administrative Offenses. Corresponding amendments were simultaneously made to the AC of Turkmenistan.

In Turkmenistan, work is being carried out at the systemic level to improve national legislation and humanize justice.
