GRATA International St. Petersburg Case: Legal Support for the Transfer of Rights to a Unique Sculpture – an Award in the Field of Cinematography

Client: A Russian cinematographer known for participating in the production of films such as Brother, Brother 2, Happy Days, Heart of Parma, among others.

The client is involved in organizing the Message to Man festival, which features documentary, short fiction, and animated films. A friend of the client gifted him a statuette in the form of a cinematographer angel. It was decided to use the sculpture as an award for winners of a young cinematography talent competition. The client approached us with a request to formalize the transfer of rights to the sculpture.

Lawyers at GRATA International St. Petersburg conducted several rounds of negotiations with the rights holder and prepared a draft agreement for the assignment of exclusive rights to the artwork. The agreement reflected the interests of both the client and the rights holder. Legal support was provided to the client through to the signing of the agreement on a pro bono basis.

This project was of particular importance to the client, as it granted him the right to freely use and manage the cinematographer angel sculpture and its image. The sculpture will now serve as a meaningful and symbolic award for young and talented student cinematographers at festivals such as Saint Anna and PeterKiT.
