Mrs. Gulnur Nurkeyeva, Managing Partner and Head of China Office at GRATA International, participated in the China Arbitration Summit 2024 held in Beijing on the theme “International Arbitration Transcending Eras”. The event was organized by the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC), the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), as well as the International Federation of Commercial Arbitration Institutions (IFCAI) and the Association of Correspondents in Litigation and Arbitration (ACLA).
In her speech at the event, Mrs. Nurkeyeva noted that state courts of Kazakhstan and China play an important role in the development of international arbitration and the rule of law. She emphasized that these courts recognize arbitral decisions for their further enforcement in the territory where the defendant or property is located. According to Mrs. Gulnur Nurkeyeva, two out of three CIETAC decisions in cases where she represented large Chinese companies were recognized and enforced by Kazakhstani courts.
The China Arbitration Summit is held within the framework of the 12th China Arbitration Week and is the main event for the arbitration community in the PRC. The main speakers were Sir William Blair, former Judge in Charge of London’s Commercial Court, Anna Joubin-Bret, Secretary of UNCITRAL, Ismail Selim, President of IFCAI, and leading figures of the CIETAC and the PRC government agencies. In total, more than 500 representatives of arbitration organizations, academic and business circles, judges, and lawyers from 47 countries and regions of the world took part in the events, with around 5 million participants joining online.
As part of the Arbitration Week, Mrs. Nurkeyeva also attended the Global Business and Law Conference, as well as various lectures and special sessions. This event is organized to promote international arbitration cooperation to ensure fair and independent arbitration, enforcement of arbitral awards in different countries, deepen cultural ties and mutually beneficial interaction, and foster the adoption of new technologies and the training of talented personnel.
