Astana Motors and BYD concluded an agreement on electric buses producing in Kazakhstan

Astana Motors and BYD Auto Industry Co., Ltd concluded an agreement on industrial cooperation. Production of the first BYD B12 electric buses will begin in Kazakhstan in December 2025. Starting in 2026, there are plans to expand localization and technological processes. Astana Motors is responsible for organizing production, sales, and service, while BYD is responsible for technology, components, and certification support.

First official dealership for Korean brand Genesis opened in Kazakhstan

The flagship G90 Black and G90 Long Wheel Base sedans were unveiled for the first time at the opening. Astana Motors announced a price lowering for vehicles manufactured at its factory

The multi-brand Astana Motors Manufacturing Kazakhstan (AMMKZ) factory released its first batch of Chery, Changan, and Haval vehicles, which allowed to reduce prices at official distributors of the aforementioned brands by 7-15% on the relevant models starting September 16.

Court case against car dealership

Growth of the electric vehicle market

There are already almost 16,000 electric vehicles in Kazakhstan, which is ten times more than at the beginning of 2023. According to the Association of Kazakhstan Automotive Business (AKAB), half of the fleet is concentrated in Almaty city, with Chinese brands leading the way, and demand for hybrids growing even faster.

Cancellation of benefits for electric vehicles

From January 1, 2026, a 16% VAT will be introduced on the import of electric vehicles into Kazakhstan, and the Eurasian Economic Commission's benefit will cease to apply. At the same time, customs duties for individuals will remain at zero in accordance with World Trade Organization rules, but vehicles may only be used for personal purposes without the right to resell them outside the country.
