Battle of the Titans in the Astana International Financial Centre Court

The Partners of GRATA International (Askar Konysbayev and Baizhan Bekzhanov) and the London office of Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner LLP (Partner Roman Khodykin, Senior Associate Nadia Hubbuck and Associate Elena Matlak) successfully participated in the largest to date (worth over USD 330 million) case in the history of the Astana International Financial Centre Court ("AIFC Court") between shareholders of one of Kazakhstan's largest oil companies.

Registration of one of the largest Russian oil and gas companies as a member of the AIFC;
Registration of the Chinese company as a member of the AIFC;
Registration of the Arabian investment company, obtaining a license, opening a bank account, as well as preparing a corporate governance policy consolidating activities;
Preparation of legal opinions on the Acting law of the AIFC on various issues within the framework of financing a project for the construction of a hotel complex in South Kazakhstan;
Preparation of legal opinions on the current AIFC law for a resident AIFC-Turkish company;
Advising on obtaining a Collective Investment Program license, AML policy requirements, corporate governance requirements, job descriptions, etc.
Advising an AIFC participant on the merger of resident companies of Kazakhstan, established in the form of LLP, to a private company form in the AIFC, for the purpose of carrying out a single activity on the territory of the AIFC;
Advising German, British banks and brokers as joint global coordinators in the public offering by JSC Holding Group Almex of its shares in JSC Halyk Bank, the largest bank in Kazakhstan, by way of issuance and placement of global depositary receipts representing the shares, on LSE and Astana International Exchange (“AIX”) (in the territory of Astana International Financial Center);
Advising one of the operators of the intellectual video monitoring system that records offense on the streets and roads of the city on the preparation of a partnership agreement in accordance with the Acting law of the AIFC;
Advising CICC on regulatory aspects of its activity as a broker on AIX;
Advising various financial institutions on marketing and regulatory requirements applicable in AIFC, including in relation to the transactions made through AIX;
Advising Mastercard on capacity of its potential customers and partners registered in AIFC.
Advising Shanghai Stock Exchange on its establishment of AIX as a joint venture with AIFC;
