Overview: On the introduction of emergency phytosanitary measures in the EAEU

On April 19, 2024, Kazakhstan ratified the Protocol on Amendments to the Treaty on the Eurasian Economic Union of May 29, 2014.

The Protocol on Amendments to the Treaty on the EAEU was signed on May 25, 2023 (hereinafter referred to as the “Protocol”) and is aimed at eliminating certain gaps in the legislation of the EAEU.

The Protocol establishes the possibility of introducing emergency phytosanitary measures against pests that are not included in the unified list of quarantine objects of the EAEU. Emergency phytosanitary measures are applied for the period until a pest is included in the relevant list, or until test results are received that confirm the absence of a phytosanitary risk in relation to a specific object.
